For many years mom and I have wanted to take a boat over to Shackleford Island to see the famous wild ponies. During our beach trip we went over to Beaufort and decided to go. The boat ride was fun and we were looking forward to spending the afternoon on the island. Well as soon as we got there, Tyson took off running as fast as he could in search of the ponies. We had to race after him (carrying tons of stuff and fighting the wind.) We finally settled down for a picnic lunch, then continued to search for the ponies...for over 2 hours we searched for said ponies! The island is beautiful and this could have been fun, however, Juel wanted to "go back to the house!" She was not impressed by the horse poop (that Tyson learned to classify as "fresh" and "old") or by the chilly temperature, long walk and shortage of snacks. I will forever remember her wearing my black zip-up that nearly dragged the ground, stomping around, traumatized by this "fun" experience. Tyson, Mom, and I loved it, but were a bit let down that after 2 hours of walking nary a horse was in sight! He finally looked at me and said, "mom we can see horses at Gee's house."We finally gave up and went back to the boat. As we were nearing Beaufort (about 30 min ride) we look over to the small island visible from the shore and see about 20 horses. Right there! Where we were prior to even boarding the boat! Oh well, it was an adventure for sure. About a week later Tyson found a brochure for Shackleford and said, "oh man, here is the map we needed to find those horses!" Next time buddy!
Look at my cute mama!
Running along the shore searching for those horses!!
Back on the boat...
Sweet love!
Smiling girl because we were almost home.
And there they are!
